“Fizz” was one of my first large mosaics; it was inspired by watching my son, Mitch, jump into the swimming pool, get out, jump into the swimming pool, get out, jump …. well, you get the idea.
I began by painting the backer board blue, then I embellished it with bubbles made with dots of paint (and a toothpick as a paintbrush!)

Next, I laid out broken tempered auto glass & glued it over the base painting on the backer board. (This included pawing — carefully — through a 5 gallon bucket of broken glass to find the narrow shards that I mounted in bands to direct the flow of light.)
I finished the piece by gluing the droplets of porcelain, glazed in 4 different shades of white, to create the foam and FIZZ of splashing water.
